Heading to the trip, I have seen numerous photographs about Hokkaido, Japan and thought I could expect the same. As I traveled across the harsh, snowy landscape of Hokkaido, I came across fields as white as a blank canvas. There I forced myself to see beyond the obvious: beyond just black and white, beyond the feeling of chills and blizzards, and beyond my imagination.
I saw it as a perfect opportunity to explore my ideas of a calm but harsh landscape; of what it could look like amidst the blizzard and the cold.
Beyond the norm of winter. What the mind’s eye sees is endless.
"Artifact Series: Beyond Whiteout" is a Fine Art Landscape series from my trip to Hokkaido, Japan, 2020.
These artworks are available for in limited edition of 15, accompanied with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
“Chaos is a norm from which man has built empires and progress.”
In these modern times, as we evolve as a species, progress becomes more rampant and continues to dull the native senses in which we hold power: the keenness of sight, the quietness of an idea, whispered in one’s ear, the subtlety of touch and the calmness of the mind amidst raging emotions. The sensations we feel as we take a minute to pause is quietly being seized away, unbeknownst to us. The bustling era of machine and social platforms deafens the qualities of calmness and tranquility and continues to exhaust us; disallowing us to rest and pause to collect our thoughts and regain composure.
As I journeyed through my travel as a photographer, I came across sets of mangroves secluded from one another as though they were contemplating their own existence in this world. I saw it as a perfect depiction of my idea of calmness and quietness—something I have been longing for since the beginning of this perilous journey of learning.
"Artifact Series: Serenity" is a Fine Art Landscape series based on finding peace amidst the chaos of the norm.

On Cityscape Photography
Bonifacio Global City -- The high-rise structures in Taguig are marvelous to shoot for cityscapes. This fine art architecture series is a view of how I see the bustling landscape in color.

As you watch from the strand or the cliffs; as you observe the sea tumble and engulf itself; ripples shaped like hands come out like it's their last attempt to grasp the air or the wind that formed them. The current powers through and appears like an illuminated element, unscathed and unbroken until it engulfs itself again.
I see waves like the equivalent of fire in its majesty and strength, able to encapsulate anything that stands in its way. Its the raw power of the sea—crushing but elegant; strong but beautiful; destructive but nevertheless ,creative.
"Platinum Fire" is a series based on my fascination with waves and the sea: from its beauty and creation to its form and dissipation. To me, it is the best display of power and elegance in one fell swoop.
Shijin (or Shishin) are the four legendary creatures that are central figures of an ancient Chinese system of astrology. These were later on imported to Japanese and Korean cultures. They are also regarded as guardians of the four directions.
These guardians are known by many names in different cultures but they are well-known in pop culture as the Azure Dragon, the Vermilion Bird, the White Tiger and the Black Tortoise.
The artifact series “Shijin” was conceptualized based on the Japanese lore of the same background. Growing up, I had a vast influence from Japanese art and anime, which these figures often show up. It was a time where I started appreciating storytelling and art and how it weaved itself into the cultures of the past and how it influences the present generations.
It took me two visits to Patar Beach to get the right weather conditions and capture the rock formations to depict what I had in mind.

When the tide shifts from low to high, the muddy terrain fills with mana from the sea; the mana brings about changes into the landscape: growth, abundance and the everflowing amount of energy that the ocean cycles from every part of the earth. Some see this deluge as a powerful force that creates waves that destroy, others see it as solitude on the shoreline. The presence of water presents a unique opportunity and challenge in a perspective.
In a camera, the crashing wave can be captured as devastation; or give it more time and it becomes solitude. It presents an overused technique to depict a scene of action, or a place of tranquility with its own uniqueness.

The concept of the series, "Emergence," is about embracing the artist within and silencing the voices that dictate what should or should not be. It's about listening to one's inner voice and pursuing one's own technique or method to bring forth one's vision. It also gives honor to my own artistic process from my experiences during the past year and how these shifts of styles and ideas led to the artist I am today.
Some of these images were featured in my recent exhibit called "UN:PLUGGED" held last July 2019. These artworks are available for in limited edition of 27 and 3 AP, accompanied with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
During a visit to Los Angeles in late 2018, I had the chance to roam the city and take photographs of places I traveled. It was a great experience, and the city of LA has so much to offer photographers: From Fine Art Architecture, to Nature, to Historical places—you name it, they most likely have it.

On a recent trip to Pangasinan, I took some photos of the "ruins" of what looked like a broken sea wall on Tondaligan beach. They were now scattered across the coast. Some of these platforms were still intact during my visit in the previous year.

Memory is a curious thing.
Science says that every experience leaves a trace in the memory. However, we can only access fragments due to the limitation of the human mind. When we try to recall these experiences, the body taps into other sensations that can help enhance the recollection.
For the longest time, I've learned to "store" memories using other sensory channels like music, scent, and taste. This time, I wanted to try to use photographs to store these memories and relive the experience with a more visual recollection. This also gives more justice to the moment and gives honor to my history with the place.
"From Memory" is an on-going series that captures some of the places I visited as how they are seen in my mind: the visual allure, the melancholic color, coupled with the emotions, experience and the feeling that's evoked when thought of.
The first part of this series is a recollection of my experience and life in Singapore almost a decade ago; along with life-changing events that took place during that time which propelled and shaped who I am today.
